We have two schools in the area and a few children have been killed on this road. There are at least one accident a week on this road…..we have to keep the pressure on.

  • From Matthew Neumann on Watch out for motorcyclists, urges ICBC

For those of you shitting on motorcyclists, maybe you should actually click the link and read some of the REAL information rather than deciding you have a hate on for ALL motorcyclists due to a few negative interactions you’ve had. Here, I’ll help you:

“The top contributing factors for drivers who hit motorcycles are distraction/inattention, failing to yield right-of-way and improper turning.”

That’s right…ALL factors where the car driver was to blame.

When you have a negative interaction with someone driving a car on the road, why do you not paint ALL “car drivers” as idiots/assholes, the same way that you do with a “motorcyclist”? Why do so many car drivers get passed by a motorbike and conclude that all motorcyclists are assholes or irresponsible?

The ones behaving poorly stand out. The ones behaving legally, well……you don’t notice. And that’s both WHY you think motorcyclists are assholes (because you’re not even seeing the majority), and also WHY so many car drivers cut off motorcyclists, drive into their lanes, and cut in front of them in intersections.

The worst culprits on the road are by FAR and away those in cars. Cellphone use is absolutely rampant. You see it even more from on a bike, and it’s NOT just young people. Every demographic, no one is paying attention. You know what people on a bike AREN’T doing? Texting and driving. You know what they ARE doing? Paying attention, because our lives depend on it when we’re surrounded by 4000lb tanks whose drivers are checking their fucking facebook feed.

Not to mention, but Sooke Road has to be the worse for people crossing the yellow line on left hand bends. It’s so bad that if they were to pupt up a divider I’m sure that there would be a lot of Sooke vehicles all scraped up on the driver’s side.

  • From Katie McLaughlin on Watch out for motorcyclists, urges ICBC

I’ll say the same thing here as I did on another news site yesterday. Every single person who drives on the road has a responsibility for road safety, that includes motorcyclists. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve had a motorcycle so close to my bumper that I can’t even see the vehicle, or how many times I’ve had a motorcycle cut in front of me and immediately swerve between lanes, or come up on the shoulder.

There are irresponsible drivers all over, and they drive trucks, motorcycles, SUV’s, cars, scooters, and bikes. Yes we can definitely watch out for motorbikes – but that’s not going to help if that driver isn’t being responsible for his/her own safety too.

Hello! Climate Change reduce emissions! How about light rapid transit or something similar. Money much better spent than adding to the road. Also the fire could have been avoided by going Kangaroo Road to Sooke Road. There is a need for more information signs letting people know if the road is closed ahead.

  • From Jenny Adams on Corridor study of Highway 14 to be concluded this fall

I read, ‘…with new intersection lighting and enhanced signage and delineation.’ To me this could be improved lighting at those intersections i.e.: flashing lights indicating intersection ahead or just more lighting at these junctures perhaps? One thing needed is more designated left turn only lanes as drivers continue to pass on right even though signs say not to. Above all speed limit needs to be enforced, maintaining 60k, safe driving distance etc could go along way to improving safety

  • From Katie McLaughlin on Christy Clark resigns as Leader of the Liberals, and as MLA

Like her and agree with her policies or not, she was a fierce leader.

She never let the constant criticism of her break her down (remember the cleavage drama in the early days?), she always stood behind her controversial decisions and didn’t waiver just to gain support, and she was a strong speaker.

I admire those things in a politician (when balanced) – but it is time for her to let someone else take the reigns, and hopefully unite and refocus the Liberals.

Personally, I don’t think those groups were much better off under Campbell, or the former NDP government either. Anyway, you’re entitled to your opinion and I can have mine. Public life isn’t an easy one, couldn’t pay me enough to lead a province.

Yeah… a fierce leader who destroyed the lives of teachers, First Nations communities, differently abled people, children, people living in poverty, children living in poverty, people living with addiction and led a corrupt and criminal government… anyways, yes, she was a fiercely fascist leader…

Teresa Diane Lynde I don’t agree with her policies at all, but do agree that she held her own with real dignity on a number of occasions; Unfortunately her constant smile made her look like an idiot when discussing really serious issues, like the fentanyl crisis for one.

    • From Lindell Smith on Christy Clark resigns as Leader of the Liberals, and as MLA

Guess the same can be said about the spineless Green leader making a bed with the enemy.
Christy was a good leader. Her throne speech was her attempt to show BC that even when she agreed to do what the NDP want to do…Horgan was quick to go against her and the policies HE wants to bring in. BC is DOOMED with Horgan and the Green party weasel!

      2017/07/29 at 3:02 am
    • From Teresa Diane Lynde on Christy Clark resigns as Leader of the Liberals, and as MLA

Not a fan of the BC Liberal policies & governance, but I agree in this world of women having to ‘out bitch’ men to stay in power positions she held her ground with dignity, kept smiling & was a strong leader & I too respect her for that, but not a fan of her governance. I don’t think we have to fail to recognise a person’s strengths just because they did not win our votes or confidence. Nothing is that black & white, well…except maybe Hitler & Trump…LOL!

Harrison Lansing – there is an entire cabinet and caucus behind her. Surely it wasn’t just Clarke making the decisions. And I did say that it was a disaster.

    • From Harrison Lansing on Christy Clark resigns as Leader of the Liberals, and as MLA

Katie McLaughlin who knows what was behind the turn in policy that led to the throne speech? I’m sorry Katie, but seriously? Do you have an alternate explanation other than “last desperate attempt to hold onto power”?

    • From Katie McLaughlin on Christy Clark resigns as Leader of the Liberals, and as MLA

    • From Katie McLaughlin on Christy Clark resigns as Leader of the Liberals, and as MLA

I’m entitled to my opinion, thank you, and you can have yours. Yes the recent throne speech was a disaster, and who knows what the push was behind the turn in policy. But she spent a number of years in government before that, and I am allowed to reflect on the whole picture.

Invest in the future, not the past. Tar heads will drag us down and hold us back. Hurry up, get with the program, not the past problem. It doesn’t take much foresight to see the writing on the wall.
