Hunger in Sooke is insatiable: Before and After photos on Food Bank Thursday — 8 Comments

  1. I am 100% sure Sooke has had more people move here due to the rental crisis… people that used to be Langford, Colwood even Sidney folks forced out of those communities.

  2. Also, I noticed a big success at Christmas with the firetrucks, filling grocery bags with food items. Would something like this be something the community can do more of througjout the year? (Not just at christmas.)

  3. With the price of everything going up- rents/mortgages, hydro, insurance, groceries, and so on the need is only going to continue to increase. So many people utilizing the food bank and the Sooke Embrace food boxes are people who work full time. It’s incredibly sad that people who work 40 hours a week don’t have any money left for food at the end of their paychecks.

  4. I cannot believe cost of food, I bought enough food for 1 week (4-5 bags) and everything on sale it 175.00 a week to feed family of 3. I make decent living but I find buying food very expensive and hard on most working families, rent increased , utilities , etc… this is only going to get worse

  5. This November, Barney Bentall will be back again to help us raise at least $10,000 cash for the Sooke Food Bank!

Food donations are great, but cash is more betterer. The crafty volunteers can turn $1 into MORE than $1 worth of food!

  6. Since when are four measly questionable cans per visit considered a hamper? Read the suhn on the Food Bank door yourself.

  7. You can go to CanadaHelps.org and search for the Sooke Food Bank. Then you can either give a one-time donation or set up a monthly donation. Every little bit helps.
