You may or may not have noticed. Sooke PocketNews has been hosting on a .INFO website since late last year, when we experienced three magnificent traffic attacks (one in October, two in November) that briefly shut down our daily news service.
We were informed by our provider that our daily traffic exceeded the allowable 50,000, and that once that number was obtained, we would experience an IP shutdown. Traffic analysis showed visitor inundation from Russia, Brazil, and Thailand.
HA! If only we were that great! Sooke PocketNews focuses on authentic local traffic, and we pride ourselves on not buying fake hits. Our numbers are proudly authentic.
While the impact on the readership was negligible (a few of you noticed a blip in the service and promptly notified us), we were scrambling in the background. Sleepless nights and prolonged frustration. It was like watching your business burn down, and there wasn’t a darned thing that could be done.
But, problem-solving is our forte. Something could be done. Something was done. Several mirror sites were set up, and Sooke.PocketNews.ca was eventually migrated over to Sooke.PocketNews.info.
Since December of last year, we’ve been maintaining both sites.
We are pleased (and relieved) to announce that we have returned home. We have a better, strong, more robust provider. We’re back on the .CA site.
Comments have been migrated over from the .INFO pages. Please update your bookmarks.
Special thanks to all who helped out at SPN in times of crisis. Thank you to the technical supports, for all your assistance. Thank you to our readership, for sticking with us in spite of these inconveniences. Thank you to our advertisers, who continue to support this free community service.
And note that the .INFO site will be quietly folded (though kept).
