Sooke Fire Chief Kenn Mount has sent another two fire fighters from Sooke, along with Engine 3, to help out in the interior of BC.
Sooke fire fighters John Hester (left side) and Roy MacTavish (right side) in the photo below, along with two from Metchosin, will be going to Cache Creek to assist with the wildfires.
They departed on the 7:00 a.m. ferry this morning.
This makes for a total of three local fire fighters who will be joining provincial efforts. Earlier this week Manolo Serrano was among the team going to 150 Mile House.
Mount said the District will be hiring another full-time fire fighter for Sooke. The job posting can be found here and here.
He said that local needs will be attended by the remaining crew in Sooke, and the tight collaborative efforts with other fire departments (Otter Point, East Sooke, Metchosin to name just a few) will continue to provide timely responses and sufficient people-power to respond to community needs.
